About Julian :

Julian was named after its founder Mike Julian. Mike Julian and Drue Bailey, cousins, came across this once unsettled lush meadow between Volcan Mountain and the Cuyamacas. They were also in Julian when the first flecks of gold were found in a creek. It was San Diego County’s first and only gold rush. The gold rush was short lived but the pioneers stayed and began farming and proved to be a fine place to grow apples. These apples still bring thousands to the Julian Mountains each fall. In recent decades Julian has become a quaint mountain resort. The town narrowly escaped destruction in the 2003 Cedar Fire that burned much of the surrounding area.
